Default Tool tray

Hi All,
What year did Ford stop putting tool trays (compartments) in the trunks of 41-48 coupes? My 47 appears to never had one, just curious.

Many Thanks

Hi, I was always told that that went away when they used up all of the 1942 floor pans. My early 1946 convertible had one. My later 1946 coupe does not have one.

And, as expected my '47 does not. Guessing that when Ford shut down the assembly lines to convert to the war effort, all those '42 floor pans got moth balled?? War ends in 1945, production resumes, and those pans were used first??

Ford had to take all the machines they had specifically for wartime production and retool for post war production which began in late 1945. There may have been stacks of the floor pans or they may have used dies till they were changed for a new design. It would be hard to say. Ford had a lot of assembly plants and some had the big metal presses but not all. Henry Ford II had all new guys running things in that time frame. Bob Gregorie left for a while after Edsel died in 1943 but went back at Henry IIs request. He stayed until 1946 but knew that things were not going to work out at Ford due to the new management structure so he left & went back to designing boats. 1947 was a skinny year for Ford and also the year that Henry died. They were trying fast and furious to build the shoebox cars but ended up a year late largely due to the design delay which also delayed the engineering and tooling.

Tools were on their way out. After the 8BA era began, there was only a jack & tire replacement tooling. The whiz kids had to save money.

My 46 Super Deluxe Coupe does not have one. My 46 does have a spare tire well that had a factory cover welded over it and never used a a spare tire well. I assume a different body style used it.
