Default OUT of STOCK '40 parts 01A-8218-B dlx hood

Those of us trying to finish '40s are running into a lot of OUT of Stock notices on those final parts necessary to finish a '40 dlx. Seems this Chinese virus shut-down has us working on our projects. Any dealer have a good stock out there?? 01A-8218-B and 01A-8215-C hood ornament Newc

The 40 deluxe hood ornament has been out of stock for over two years. Call all Ford parts in Campbell CA. Bill there was the last dealer I’ve heard of that’s had one recently

Be aware, there have been numerous comments about marginal fit on both Drakes and Vintiques hood ornaments. Don't rule out spending the $ to find an original, restore it $$ and plate it $$$.

in todays environment it makes little sense for suppliers to tool up for these specialized parts.. as a result expect this trend to continue

Be aware that a common problem with replating a 40 hood ornament is that the two ends pull in towards each other, changing the inner radius required for fitment on the hood. Make sure your plater knows how to prevent this.

Follow -up on this item; I just got a report from a dealer of selling their last one for $800+ { Premium pricing} As this item is now gone from stock. I 'loaned' a tired original to a project and don't expect to have it replaced any time soon. So much for depending on those reproduction parts. Newc

I have a sneaky suspicion this item will be available again within the next year or so. I have a drake on my 40 and there is about a 1/32” gap in the mid section but it doesn’t bother me.

There were 2 repops on EBAY in the last few weeks. $195 and $483 is what they sold for. The Ford Store sold their last one 2 wks ago for $500.

WTH, they have been producing these for years, so the tooling already exists out there. All they need to do is make some!

You don't just make 1, you have to step up to 500 to 1000. And you have to seriously look at how many you can sell in a year. With todays market maybe 10 to 20 a year. And costs have gone way up. The number of die casters that are left in the US that could handle that with any quality are nil, not many left in Taiwan. So if you are going to get your investment back in 2-5 years you are going to have to sell those 10 at 500 to 1000. Not going to happen, so the repro is not going to happen.

I agree with Karl. As I have said on this forum before, the folks that criticize and complain about the manufacturers of reproduction parts need to step up and make a part just once. They will see that the risks of manufacturing something is great in a dwindling market...so it's easy to turn our computers on and fire off commentary about how these guys who have done a service to the hobby need to make another run...and do what with them? Put them on their shelves and watch them collect dust. There is a thing called "return on investment" and most, not all, of these guys are good businessmen. By the way...I hope there is another run!

What is a fair price in todays market for a 40 Std. 01a-8218-a hood ornament that are also out of stock/production. I want to sell a NOS Bob Drake one and hate to go to ebay unless I have to. Thanks, Grady
