Default Carburetor (Secondary Well)

Excuse my ignorance but what is the purpose of (i.e. how important is.. ) the Zenith brass ‘secondary well’…. my double venturi style does not have one (no threads in hole)… my single venturi has the threaded hole but is missing the brass insert … both seem to run properly. If I need to put the brass insert in, is the repro item (brattons) a reasonable alternative? What size tap would I use to ‘chase’ the treads (mild rust) in the hole?

This is the best way to understand the Carb.

Double venturi carb has no secondary well, used on early 1928,single has a secondary well don't see how it can run without one. 3/8ths 24 tap

Secondary well is vented to the atmosphere, stops engine suction from pulling gas from the fuel bowl. the secondary well is filled with gas from the float bowl through the comp jet when the engine is turned off or operating at very slow speeds. the secd well fills with gas and when engine speed increases all the fuel in the secd well is sucked into carb throat through the cap jet. simple?
