Default 1931 Victoria, Mounting a Luggage Rack

Has anyone had difficulty mounting a luggage rack on the back of a Victoria that has twin side mounts in the front fenders? I have a couple of problems, the bracket comes too close to the rear apron and the brackets have mounting holes that will not match up with the two bolts that hold the cross piece between the bumper arms. It appears that there is not enough steel at the bottom of the brackets to place the mounting holes centerline about 1 1/2 in. from the gentle curve in the luggage bracket. It is difficult to get a handle on what has to be changed. Just curious if others have faced the same situation. This is an early 31 car, no indented firewall. Thanks for your help, Ed

Here is a picture of the original trunk rack bracket on my Vicky. Since you have dual side mounts, you should have a full width rear bumper. When installing a full width rear bumper on a Model A, a spacer needs to be used between the rear bumper brackets and the rear bumper cross brace.

Hello Bill, your picture answers all my questions. I will contact Brattons. Two more questions for you, does the luggage rack bracket use the same two bolts as the cross brace and is the luggage bracket to the outside of the bumper arm, not touching the cross brace? Thanks for your help, Ed

The trunk rack uses the same 2 bolts per side that the rear bumper cross brace uses. The correct order from the outside to the inside (if you have a full width rear bumper) would be: Trunk rack support, bumper bracket, spacer and bumper cross brace.
The spacer is nothing more than a A-17798-A Bracket (rear fender guard bar) cut shorter. See page 4-18 in the Restoration guidelines.

Snyders has the brackets for $50. Not sure if they would work for the other style rack listed in the Service Bulletins.
