Default Horn rod straightness

In his restoration book, Pearson says that a bent horn rod is practically worthless. Mine had a sweep in it when removed. My efforts to straighten it by hand made changes, but not perfection. The rod slides easily to the bottom of the steering shaft. I am confident I can make a jig to restore the perfect straightness, but why is perfection so critical?

So it doesn't turn the light switch when turning the steering wheel.

Russell, they can be straightened much in the same process as straightening an arrow.
