Default Need information on odd size socket

I need a 13/32" deep socket for my carburetor work. I've tried all the usual hardware sources and looked on-line with no luck. Anybody got a hint for me?

Use a 10mm 6 point. Works fine.

I'm sorry, I misread your original post. I was thinking you were looking for part #14080 (p.61 of current catalog).

John, the 10mm 6 point socket does not work...at least the Craftsman model from Sears does not. I'm currently using a 10mm open end that I filed out to fit but I'd rather find a deep socket if I could.

I guess I should have told you that a little material needs to be removed from the inside like you did with your end wrench. I used a diamond impregnated tool in my dremel. Doesn't take much. Tools are available at Harbor Freight.

10mm = .3937
13/32" = .4063

How long does the 13/32" 1/4" drive socket need to be ? I might be able to help you out, without breaking your wallet. Let me know.

I filed out a 6 point 10 MM box wrench to fit the GAV housing. I bought an excellent double ended socket wrench to fit the jets from A&L many years ago.

I lucked out! I was trying to collect enough of the old 9/32 drive Snap-ons to put together a good set of wartime vintage. One little box contained a variety of differing length deep sockets, and revealed 1930 and 1931 date codes when cleaned...I eventually realized that they were an actual Snap-on Model A carb set, with special length deep sockets for the several hex headed jets and a 13/32 for the GAV. Having a perfect purpose-made socket for each part is an astounding luxury!
I have not checked the current SO online catalog, but I do know that SO made deep 13/32 in 6 and 12 points at least into the WWII period, and 9/32 socket stuff of that time is fairly common.

OK, these guys are in England, but they list a couple in stock, price should be more reasonable than the one I posted earlier:

Bruce...I'm so envious. Please put me in your will for this set

This page on the Snap-on collectir site lists the things, waaaay down on the page: http://collectingsnapon.com/index.ph...C9-32inch/9-32 part number guide

Maybe if your local truck guy is really good...
I did not have this list at the time, and got out that little stash because I remembered it had a 13/32 in it...then I noticed the other sockets happened to fit the jets...then I noticed that every one of the things was a different length, which happened to be perfect for each part...THEN I finally realized what I had, and found the date codes!
WooHoo!!
It is really interesting to work with that little set and to realize that someone now long dead bought those things 80 years ago to do exactly what I am doing with them now! They were probably an expensive luxury at the time, as everything can be improvised one way or another and lots of Model A's got through the depression on little more than the original toolkit.

Here's the Snap-On set:

There is a series of Carburetor Sockets. Here are the S-9012, S-9013, S-9014, S-9015 and the S-9018

The S-9014 is the 13/32"

from:

http://www.modela.org/gav_wrench.html

"GAV Housing hex nut may be either 7/16" or 13/32". The 7/16" was used until September of 1930 and there after the 13/32" was used. The 7/16" open wrenches are readily available, but 13/32" wrenches are very hard to find. So, I've carefully filed out an open 3/8 wrench to snuggly fit 13/32 housing hex nuts. I've painted the arm of the wrench so that it is readily identifiable and isn't confused to be the original 3/8 wrench."
