Suggestions on painting rear
We are going to rebuild and paint the worm gear rear end on our AA fire truck so it will be red .We have a worm drive rear. Would you take it apart sand blast and rebuild and then assembly. rebuild the rear assemble then paint . Not sure what would give the best end result . Any ideas I would sure appreciate. We have to use the new waterborn paint which I have never used.

Well, my vote is to assemble first and then paint, --especially given that y'all have never rebuilt an AA rear end before. As for waterborne, since you mention you are using waterborne, it begs the question, is your booth even set up for it? If not, I tend to believe you will have a struggle ahead of you in this regard. If someone else is painting it in a booth that is equipped for W/B paint, it is very similar in characteristics of a solvent based paint regarding prep. |
