Default Door hinges

Looked at a '29 cowl today with no doors. The hinges were way different than my 29 roadster. They we're not inline with the door opening they were maybe an inch ahead of the door opening. For lack of a better wi they almost looked like it would be for a "surface mount" door not a flush type. What type of body would have that type of door. Didn't get a picture I know all of you guys have good imaginations as well as tons of knowledge.
Thanks
Dick

Yes some are knuckled forward and the door part of the hinge is ahead of the door seam
A cabby is that way for sure
