Default Front spring id

The long and short of this story is this:

I purchased a front and rear suspension that were parted out of a 1940 slantback sedan-

However the measurments on front spring are throwing me off -
Eye to eye center is 38 1/2, leaves are 2" wide. There are 11 leaves including the saftey leaf. The spring had also had a grease sleave . What has me stumped is The eye diameter is 1 1/8", not 3/4-

The center to center measurments on the spring hangers are 42 1/2"

I still have the axle and the center to center perch bolt measurement is 38 1/2"

The rest of the parts including the car were defiantly 1940...

Unfortunately I no longer have the wishbone to confirm any measurments-

At this point I'm trying to figure out what parts I actually have??

I'm using this spring in the ass end of my 29 roadster project..

II can post a picture of the spring later -

Thanks in advance for the sharing of your early ford wisdom!

PHOTOS are WAY too large to be viewed meaningfully.
Can you repost smaller version?

You're measuring "perch to perch" incorrectly. You are measuring PERCH to KING PIN hole, which is of no use. Your "perch to perch" on center is 38-1/2". That IS a '40 axle (could be anywhere between '37-'41). Note the center axle in the chart below! DD

Geez I'm an idiot.... and I should certainly know better! Than DD for pointing that out!

And sorry about the large photos...

Any way I'm more confused by the the front spring that came with the axle...more specifically the 1 1/8 eye diameter.??

The main leaf shackle diameter on the 42-48 cars is definitely larger than the 40 main leaf shackle diameter. I believe it is over 1"in diameter. I suspect you have a spring from a 42-48 Ford.

Tj, sounds about right. any idea what the eye to eye measurement on a 42 front spring is?
