Default Having a Horn Issue

We have a Spartan horn , It will not turn or at least you have to help it. I pushed the horn button ,I took a wood dowel and help it get started and it went about 8 or 10 revolution's and stopped. I have read the threads about spraying it and checking ground witch I did even oiled it and no better, Am I missing something Thanks

If you ground the blue wire connection to a solid ground and the horn does not blow well, the problem is probably in the Horn. I wouls suggest cleaning the commutator, checking the brushes and if that fails, back off on the adjuster and see if it runs fast then. If this fail, you may need a horn rebuild.

Hook it up with a couple of jumper wires from the battery. If it sounds well then the problem is in the wiring of the car. If not then the trouble is with the horn.

My friend's horn barely turned, so I backed out the adjustment screw and held fine sandpaper on the commutator as it spun. After a few seconds of this the speed picked up and I adjusted the screw back in for proper sound. The commutator didn't look bad, but the fine sandpaper did the trick.

Yes, what 1930 coupe just said. I've felt some horn buttons get very warm after just a few seconds of blowing the horn. A poor connection causes heat.

A temporary fix is to push down hard on the horn button and rotate it back & forth a number of times, cleans the carbon off the contacts, till you can disassemble the button to clean the contacts right.

That's what I had to do to my 28 when I bought it in 1999, and it's been working fine ever since.

If it turns out to be the ground on the horn switch, use a electronic relay available thru Seders.
