Default '36 Helical First Gear In Later Trans?

I have picked up a few new 68-7100B first gears and want to use them where 01A-7100 first gears are otherwise correct. Will the first-rev shift fork have a problem with the earlier helical gear? Are the top shift first-rev forks the same back to the B-7231? Looking for ways to freshen up trans with worn gears. Thanks: Fred A

Fred....the 68-7100B gear is essentially the same gear as the 01A-7100 gear. The primary difference is the diameter of the flange at the fork groove. The 01A flange is a bit bigger in diameter. You can use either one in a toploader trans with 1936-50. However, I would not recommend using the 68-7100B gear in a 1940-50 side loader trans....the 1st/rev fork is shaped differently and I think you might not have adequate fork tip contact with that application.

Aside from all that, the tooth count, tooth shape, and the spiral splines are identical between the two gears.
