I did the same thing to my 46 Ford. I pulled the 4 blade and installed a 6 blade and had Skip rebuild my water pumps. My car runs about 150-160 now in 70-80 degree temps. I haven't had any problems with the gas boiling in the carb yet. I'm hoping my problem is salved also. Good Luck with your project.

Jan I'm useing a Penna. neighbor of yours 180 stats. Bob Shewman makes heavy duty hi flow stats that go in the hoses. They hold the temp in my 39 between 178 and 182 when driving in outside temperatures from 50 to 90 degrees. In hot weather at idle or heavy traffic the temps will raise. Thermostats have nothing to do with cooling, only bringing the engine temperature up to the rateing of the stats. In my case 180. I have never found stats that work before and ran without them useing cardboard over 1/3 rd of the radiator in cool temps. I can tell you one thing and that's that my engine never ran as consistantly smooth as it has since running at a steady 180 degrees. I had my 39 P/U with the shrowd, 6 bladed industrial fan and Skips pumps out today for a little over an hour a 86 outside temp and it ran at 165. I'm goint to get a set next week for the P/U. your going to find the Ford 6 blade a little noisey. G.M.

I just installed SW Gauges electric temp,When running along 55 mph its says 190Degs.When idling goes up to 210.When first starting engine last year had a mech gauge and didn,t have enought water and cooked the gauge.I did have over heating problem and put new Walker Raditor, then pumps were leaking put new ones. The engine is 255 with .060 over with sleeves, and 180 temps. This is first time with gauge and not over heating.I also put gauge on pass side thats the hot side.New gas gauge
didn,t would to run out.Set float up little.Turned key and had 1/4 tank, filled and took 11 gallons. So empty should still have few gallons.
