Sidemounts - 1 or 2 ?

The Goodyear tires are made to the correct size for the Model A and will fit in the fender well.

My 31 is like that with Firestones. But it also has a rear mount so no problem.

At least I wouldn't make a rat rod out of it. No, an original car should remain original. If it came with sidemount (e.g., deluxe roadster/phaeton, commercial), it should stay that way. Course, most passenger Model A came with rear mount.

I love 6 wheel roadsters and don't care what anyone else thinks. My 30 phaeton had dual side mounts and a rear mounted spare when I bought it unrestored. I found that a bit much and the rear spare had to go.

I like the side mount, and a 19" Goodyear fits fine. Never had a problem working in that side of the engine compartment either. Whatever floats your boat!

My Goodyear Diamond Tread Tire fits nicely and I have no problem with it while working on the engine. Sidemounts look neat and access is easier than rear if you have a luggage rack. The door opens wide enough for me.

When I bought my 1930 Briggs Town Sedan 10 years ago, it had been stored in two different car collector's heated storage for 30 years.

It came with an aftermarket rear metal trunk, no rear spare mounted tire, and a riveted side mount as opposed to a bolted side mount on the passenger's side, which according to judging standards, this side mount was factory installed.

Every time I stop at an expensive motel, at least 5 young single women in bikinis open their motel room doors and tell me how much they like my side mounted spare tire ...... next they invite me in to have a drink .... so, I have learned through experience to keep my side mounted spare tire ..... really feel sorry for all of the other old guys who prefer their rear mounted spare tires ..... they really have no idea what they are missing.

With a L/H side mount, I was backing up my '29 P.U, door swung open & clipped a small tree! Popped in the door & broke the plate glass window, I CRIED (REALLY) But the door popped out perfect, with a little HELP.

Came across this thread looking for advice on sidemount mirrors. (LH) Vibration doesn't begin to describe what this mirror does on the road. I've tried shims and they fall out.

Also, a list of those motels where sidemount appreciative bikini clad women stay would be of interest.

If you must have them, I would consider one and mount it on the passenger side to evenly distribute the weight with just the driver in the car. Why waste the money with an extra tire? Ed

One, two, none, it all depends on what YOU want, not uncle Joe or the guy standing alongside you.
When I got my car, it had none. I wanted a BIG trunk to put lots of "stuff" in so there was no other choice but a side mount. I cut the hole so it was big enough and forward enough to accomadate a wide tire and not limit the door opening. No big deal. You do what you need to do to get what you want. If you can't do the work yourself, you hire it done. If some dipshit doesn't like your car, you are not required to talk to him.
