12 V Coil
I know I have seen this before but cannot find it.
Stock A with HC head. 12V conversion with electronic ignition. Coil seems to be hot all the time. What coil should be a replacement? Any ballast resistor needed?

Re: 12 V Coil
I would see what the manufacture of your electronic ignition recommends.

Re: 12 V Coil
Had the same problem except for stock ignition with 5.9 head; finally went to a tar filled coil from a salvage yard, 12 volt internal resistor, after trying a new Std. UC oil filled coil and another brand. Mounted the oil filled coils terminals up ,not down because the oil- internally -filled doesn't cover the windings. Both got very hot and would make the car die for some reason, then run when cooled down. Some like the Pertronix epoxy filled coils per other FB threads. The internal resisted coils seem to get very warm to the touch.

Re: 12 V Coil
Check the manf. of the coil also. It may have a resistor built in. Mine didn't and burned out very quickly and messy. Was an expensive one with resin filler, blew the bottom (top on Model A) out and rand down the firewall. Melted the points and fortunately when it quit it was a block from home and a kid with a rope pulled me to my shop. I had asked for a coil with built in resistor and took the speed shops word for it that it had one, Read the fine print. This one required an external resistor. I bought another with a resistor in it and it works fine and is not hot to touch.
