'56 T-Bird Trans w Overdrive Oil Leak
I have a problem with an oil leak at the end of the overdrive transmission extension when I park my '56 T-Bird on an up hill location. I have dropped the drive line and the yoke which goes into the extension has slight ridges when I run my fingers around the yoke. The ridges are only slight and is not visible to the eye.
Several weeks ago when I attended a local T-Bird Club tour I was given the advice that I should have the yoke turned to eliminate the ridges and install a new bushing and rear seal. Since then I have ordered and received a new bushing and rear seal. The seal fits tight and the bushing fits with just a slight amount of play when I put both on the yoke before mounting on the extension. My question is; will I add to the problem by turning down my yoke by 1 or 2 thousands of an inch to eliminate the ridges causing more play with the bushing and possibly causing an oil leak problem in the future? |

I would say don't cut off more metal! Just polish the yoke with some crocus cloth.
