Default Fulton accelerator pedal

Gents, what is typical when installing a Fulton gas pedal in the Model A. Do you remove the original button and let it ride on the accelerator shaft

I let mine push on the "button" A little grease on the button helps.

Wouldn't that accessory pedal get in the way for stepping on the starter rod?

I have an original accessory foot pedal and I love it. If I ever get off my duff I would like to reproduce it. And no it does not get in the way of the starter.

There were several manufacturers of accessory accelerator pedals, Fulton being just one. However, rather than 'getting off your duff' to reproduce it, just buy one that is ALREADY being reproduced. It is as easy as thumbing through the latest SNYDER'S catalog (page A-146) and plunking down $30 plus shipping; BRATTON'S, page 70.

I do have a NOS original FULTON Accelerator Pedal, as well as a reproduction from 1980. I presume the same people who made the reproductions in 1980 are the same people (or company) that are making them today.

My original FULTON pedal has "FULTON - made in USA" embossed into the top of the pedal. It is chrome plated brass. The reproduction I have from the 1980's looks just like it, without the embossed logo, and the under part is somewhat different.

If your accessory pedal does not have the embossed logo, etc. on the top of the pedal, then it is an after market reproduction made after 1975 or so.

The later Ford pedals work good on a Model A. Just grind off the lump on the bottom & screw it to the floorboard with wood screws. A pedal makes driving much more comfortable. A friend made one from a shoe sole & thin plywood & a cheep hinge.

I took the stock button off and replaced it with an acorn nut of the correct thread size.... works much better now.

Thanks guys,

yes I like the acorn nut idea! I think the accelerator shaft will eventually wear into the pedal more than necessary otherwise, maybe a little grease on the acorn nut makes sense as well

OK here is the one that came with the car when dad got her in 1962. No markings at all.

I use a nylon acorn nut that slides nicely on the reproduction Fulton pedal.

I picked up this huge fulton petal. It has all the fulton info, but seems too big for the model A. Has anyone seen this one?
