While I do not know for sure I think they can get away with that in Maine because of the less dense population areas compared to Illinois for example. Less people+ less vehicular traffic=less pollution. Biggest city in Maine is 66,000, Illinois has suburbs that dwarf that. In order to comply with Federal EPA standards Illinois had to designate some areas as ethanol blended fuel zones. Granted most of IL sells E-10 but I think that may just be a convenience factor for the producers.

Although the map doesn't show it, New York does indeed have E10, at least downstate.

fordors we have a choice over here in the NW corner...... BP, Phillips 66, and Casey's offer non-alcohol gas at most of their stations. The non-alcohol is only like 20 cents more per gallon BUT if you run a couple tanks full then check your mileage it goes up 2-3 MPG, so it is worth it anyway.

Most everybody pulls in and pumps the cheapest they have, bad idea.

At least we're not California those folks are really getting it put to 'em.

My sister filled up at a Sam's Club Walmart gas station one day last week in her new Mustang GT, because it was a little cheaper. She said her car ran so bad on the way home she didn't know if she would make it. I told her 'Get back over to Chevron that is the best gasoline you can buy out there!'

No Booze gas here in Alaska.

However: just like Jeff stated above, my wife filled up at a station here on the local Air Force Base a couple weeks back, of course at the cheapest pump. Her Lincoln Aviator did not like that gas at all. It ran terrible! I couldn't wait till she ran it out & I got back to some good ol' Chevron.

When I researched the crap gas last fall, I read that 17 states had such a strong corn lobby that they got the state to pass a bill stating the sellers didn't have to label the pumps as to what was in the junk they sold. Michigan and Minnesota are two of the states. So far I've only seen one station in Minnesota without labels on the pumps, but when I was in Michigan, it was hard to find a pump with a label.

Ethanol gasoline is the only stuff available at gas stations here in Maine with very few exceptions. One exception is at local airports. I have used the Pittsfield and Dexter locations to buy AV gas. You can buy quart cans of regular, no-alcohol gas at chainsaw/power equipment shops but it is very expensive.
