Default Duby Alignment Guage - on swap meet

Maybe I shouldn't do this but I'm giving a plug for the Duby alignment gauge on the swap Meet tab that is for sale. This was the original tool manufactured by Duby and sold to Ford Dealers for doing Toe in on cars. Some have 1/8" mark increments, some have 1/16" increments. I believe this one is the 1/8. Even then it can be cleaned up and is an great tool for doing toe in's. I have one of each and they are extremely accurate and make the job a snap. Yes, it cost more than the home built and wood stick 2X4 but is much more accurate. Just throwing this out there for those that might want it. As a KRW and tool junkie it's the right tool for the job that makes the difference and the job easy, so why not use it.

Mitch, I use to see them online but haven't in a while. Are the still available?... if that's the case then that's the solution. The last one I bought was $15 at a swap meet a couple of years ago...

Some of the parts on the new ones are kind of cheap looking, but I don't think that makes a difference. The new ones are easier to read too.The old ones bring as much money as the new ones.A friend bought a new one for around $90.I think I paid $50.for an old one about 25 years ago.We call them Duby bars.

I am the person selling the Duby gauge. The person who wanted to buy it from me has backed out. Make me an offer, I may take it!

So Fellas, I guess I should just throw the Duby gauge away because it's worthless because you'd rather buy retail?

Why not step back and put a price on it that allows a sale? Or put it up on the garage wall were it will be handy when it is time to do some wheel alignment. There is always a price that prompts a sale.

To help you determine a value I just purchased a Duby Alignment Guage at the last swap meet for $20. see the photos below

I've never seen one at a swap meet but I like that one better than my Snap On toe in gauge.

It is not worthless, but appearantly is worth less than your price. I guess you can either lower the price to where it will sell, or throw it away, your choice. Just because it is not selling at your price does not make it worthless, just worth less!

If you look closely on the ad, I have the letters "obo" behind the price. I am open to the "or best offer". The retail ads the other guys mention range from $88 to just under $100. Another post said he picked his up for $20. I am just trying to make back what I paid for it plus some for my trouble. So I think we are somewhere between $20 to $88. Make me an offer!
Also, I picked up a Bear Alignment gauge at the same time as the Duby gauge. Anyone interested in the Bear tool?

Here's 3 pictures of my Snap On toe in gauge. My friend and I went to an auction in southern Wisconsin about 10 years ago. The sale bill made it look like a great auction for Model A parts, but we and several others were very disappointed when we got there. Since we drove so far we stayed for most of the auction and bought a few things. As I was digging through the junk on one of the trailers I spotted this toe in tool. I started rubbing the brass name plate and as soon as I saw Snap On I quit cleaning it, pushed it back with the junk, and walked away. I waited for the bid, and apparently no one knew what it was or they weren't paying attention because I only had to bid $10 to get it. I cleaned the dirt and rust off, sandblasted the cast parts and repainted it. Rather than leave the 1" square bar plain steel as original, I used green self etching primer, so it won't rust.

Notice the flat side on the one end stand that fits against the inside tire sidewall, and the adjustment bar that fits against the other tire's inside sidewall. You set it to touch the insides of the tires on the front side, then remove the tool, roll the car forward until the same spot on the sidewall is at the rear, then set the tool rigid end against the tire and measure how far out you have to move the adjustment bar to touch the other tire. Adjust the tie rod to get 1/16" to 3/32" wider on the rear for the Model A.

Tom thanks for posting the photos!
I can see that the Snap-on could be more cumbersome and more opportunity for error. The Duby gauge is set in place with the chains just touching the ground, set the readout at the initial set point then roll the vehicle forward with the gauge in place until the chains just touch the ground and then read the indicator. Look at the Ford Service Bulletin April 1928 page 239 Front Wheel Alignment Also on page 239 fig 490 and 491 shows the Duby gage in use.
