Drake's replacement (resistance type) gas tank sender units have their electrical workings/contacts exposed to the gas tank interior on the underside of their sender unit. I presume their design means that the sender unit will not produce "spark" during its performance.
Want to use my OE '47 (putze type) sender unit which has its electrical working parts on underside of sender, enclosed in an outer metal-can shaped housing. Their screw holes can line-up but their tank hole slightly too small to drop my original sender in. Don't want to saw their hole larger and possibly invite gas leakage around mounting collar.
Is it okay for me to remove just the enclosure housing on the original, thus exposing the workings ?
