How to stop gel caps from melting?
I have two tubes of distributor cam lube, and would like to be able to distribute small amounts to members of my clubs. I bought some gel caps that are water soluble, because I couldn’t find any others. Anyone know how to coat them,so they are reasonably waterproof, or have another idea or method of small storage? Thanks. Chuc

Re: How to stop gel caps from melting?
I think Chuck wants to put the lube in some small capsules to pass out to members.
I think cutting off short pieces of thin plastic straws would work, but how to plug the ends? Maybe pus the capsules inside the short pieces of a larger plastic straw. Melt the ends of the plastic straw to hold the capsules. |

Tiny zip lock bags. About the size of a quarter. Used by some to distribute white powder. Available at dollar stores.

Re: How to stop gel caps from melting?
I have a needle nose where the two jaws are round and tapered, so they can be used to form an eye in solid wire. At the right temperature these might work well to squeeze and seal the plastic straw ends. We used to use a hot butter knife to seal the end of dry cleaner bags when we made hot air balloons with 7 birthday candles. This would cut and seal the plastic as long as it was the right temperature. I didn't know a person could buy syringe needles, but think this would be too expensive. Steve's idea of small plastic baggies is probably the best way to do it. |

Re: How to stop gel caps from melting?
Clear vinyl tubing with a cap plug on each end? That is how I store my reamers with tube full of oil. The wonderful world of plastic should have something to offer as a solution.
I don't know about how to stop the gel caps from melting, though. Maybe even lengths of heat shrink tubing? Last edited by Growley bear; 03-05-2018 at 10:46 AM. Reason: add text |

Re: How to stop gel caps from melting?
Just get a length of clear fuel line. Cut it into shorter lengths. Bend one end so it won’t leak, pour or squeeze the stuff into the tube, and bend the other end. Fasten everything together with thin strip of duct tape. Don’t use rubber bands because they deteriorate.
Try to write something on the duct tape with an indelible pen so that when one of these things is discovered a hundred years from now, they’ll have some idea of what it is or was. Just full of ideas, Mike |

Re: How to stop gel caps from melting?
Maybe it's just me, but it seems like a lot of trouble for an item that costs $8.95/tube at Snyder's.
If they don't want to buy their own you could just just bring your tube to meeetings or tours and lube everyone's distributor cam. You could also include a tube in a club parts and tools box that you could take on tours. David Serrano |

I also applaud your generosity, but a $7 tube lasts a lifetime and is available at PepBoys and other auto parts suppliers.

Re: How to stop gel caps from melting?
I noticed my wife has small jars and small vials of make-up that could be used for that purpose. She also has small bottles of perfume, but I'm not sure if the opening is large enough to get the lube out.
She uses some organic gel that comes in a tube but she can't squeeze the tube because of her rheumatoid arthritis, so I squeeze some gel for her into a small make-up jar that has a screw top. I would upload some pictures but for some reason I can't seem to make it work. David Serrano |

Re: How to stop gel caps from melting?
I've seen small packets of cam lube at NAPA, etc, usually on the counter near the cash register. Ask.

then leave it sealed and snip the corner to use like a pastry bag to apply the goo.

Re: How to stop gel caps from melting?
can you coat with some of the dip used to coat tool handles. Looks like rubber in a can. Low temp but not sure of chemical compatibility.
Maybe some clear silicone caulking. Low temp parafine. |

This is the first link that popped up, ... you might find other sites that are cheaper or without a minimum quantity purchase. Depending on which state you live in (MMJ friendly), you can have them delivered for free within 45 minutes or so. Regards Bill |
