Default F-1 Radio and Speaker

I think I have found a working radio for my 1950 F-1. I am in need of a speaker. I know that I can rewire a standard 6x9, but would rather find a period speaker and recone/refurbish. Any ideas where I can find one?

Its factory '59 and I think its only 5 watt output, one 6x9 speaker in the dash. Your not talking about adapting a 8 ohm speaker to 4 ohm are you. Your just talking about installing a regular 6x9? I have a new one installed but the 5watt output is really weak into 8ohms and I dont know where to get a 4 ohm one.

I'd just buy one from S&M Electro-Tech, Inc. No one will ever see what's under the grill.

A recone is expensive and they will not last any longer than the original. Now if it is one of the electro-magnet type and you just have to have OEM then you are going to get to know someone who recones them but you can run a permanent magnet type and just leave the electro-magnet circuit open as long as it's insulated.

I have had several reconed cost was around $75 each. But then I wanted an original. Sometimes the magnet on the original fits the mounting in the F1 better than a new one due to the angled bracket it just depends on the size of the magnet. I probably have one or two for reconing. Pm me if interested.

The 50/51 Mercs had the same clearance problem with the speaker. They have to have a small magnet on them to fit between the radio chassis and the dash. The S&M ones will fit.

On Ebay all the time with the correct plug for the back of the radio. The price is usually $75.00 .
