Default Oil pump install question

I've recently acquired a 31 rolling chassis with motor and trans. Unknown if it's a runner or not, so I've removed the oil pan and pump to clean. When I removed the pump there was no screw in the passenger side block. Upon reinstall, I threaded a bolt lightly in the hole to hold the pump. Pan is installed with new gaskets, etc. My question is, is the bolt supposed to remain in the hole to hold the pump, or should I remove it and plug the hole with..... ??? Thank you

The oil pump is held in place by the spring mounted to the bottom of the pump.No bolt, the hole is sealed with a pipe plug.Dont remember the pipe plug thread size.

Number 13,
this pin is only an assembly aid. It prevents the pump housing from slipping out until the oil pan is in place.

Many success!

If you screwed in a normal thread "bolt" you may have damaged the NPT ( Pipe Thread) in the hole. Use the proper size NPT pipe plug. Or the available handy tool that uses a small screw through a pipe plug to hold the pump during engine assembly.
