'41pickup long time parked................
my '41 pick up had been parked 25 years and when I removed the gas cap, it smelled strongly repulsive like "I wanted to throw up". Why?
what caused the bad smell ? what do you suggest? thank you, fordman |

Re: '41pickup long time parked................
Having been there, there is only one sure fire way- fabricate a new tank as I suspect the base of the tank is likely rusted through. You may want to try having a rad shop try to clean the tank. If the bottom is fine, you will want to use a sealer that is compliant with ethanol. I would also suggest an in-line fuel filter. Good luck.

Re: '41pickup long time parked................
Simply, old gas stinks. The fact that the tank has been sitting and probably collecting water (due to condensation) causing rust you may want to start with a new tank. For what it take to clean an old tank and seal any leaks a new tank is a good deal.
