Engine pics walt dupont
My Daughter came over and got the pic out of my clicker and put them in the PC. Ain't it funny how these kids can do this so easy. I'll post a couple of engine I just did. First, 1942, removed the sleeves, bored to 3- 3/16, removed the ledge from flywheel, balanced whole engine, other that that it's stock. Going into a 39 pickup. Hope this works. Walt

Artistic. It's a shame you have to get it running and cover all that beautiful "Stiff"

Re: Engine pics walt dupont
Walt, you make it sound so easy. I've been trying to come up with an engine for almost two years. So far, I'm back to almost zero progress. This engine is the one that I planned to use the Merc crank in (which was sourced from you, few years ago). First engine got along far enough that it was on an engine stand, and running. Found water in the oil within 10 minutes. Bottom line, block has fatal holes which can't be repaired - can't access them. This, after I have about 1K in the block alone, not counting anything else. This engine sounded great. Second block... I tore it down, my engine builder had it cleaned, checked for cracks, found two (the ones that go from a port, across the deck, and down the cylinder), and he rejected it. He wants a block (59) with no cracks. Third block, almost same problem, this time, only one of these cracks - reject. Fourth block, almost the same, but this time, added damage from a rod that broke (we think). I've become discouraged, and project is currently on hold. But, I've got a lot of good parts - Merc crank, .010/.010, rods done, new pistons, rings, bearings, fresh cam, lifters, pump, new aluminum heads, fresh clutch, surfaced & balanced flywheel, etc, and the rotating assembly is balanced. Obviously, you've got a better plan than I have.

Re: Engine pics walt dupont
Walt,
Great pics, thanks to your daughter! Really nice to see your assembly work set up, laid out looking so good. Neat old Flatheads! In the pocket in the lifter valley I see the 7 , I guess the "diamond" behind it, can't make out the mark in front. What does the 7 , the diamond, other mark indicate? Gene Tulsa |

Hey Walt, Thanks for sharing! Is this your first photo post?
When you say a diamond in the lifter valley, do you mean you found a gemstone in the engine? -VT/Jeff |

Re: Engine pics walt dupont
Jeff, I use to be able to get my pic out of my clicker and put them in my album on the pc and post them on the barn. BUT, we bought a new PC and however my wife has it set up everything is differant and it seems so complacted. That's why I don't build Lambogenie engines, there to complacated. Walt

Walt: What advantages do you see in removing the ledge from the flywheel?

Re: Engine pics walt dupont
Well, it takes about 10# off the wheel for a little qicker rpm and on the Model A engine I usually use the 9in. V8 clutch so I remove the ledge and have the wheel redrilled for the 9in. PP and balanced. It's a lot smoother clutch and lighter that the A PP and easier on your leg. Walt

Re: Engine pics walt dupont
Nice work, Walt. Is there a reason for using the fiber vs alum. cam gear? Just curious.

Nice work, Walt (though I feel totally underqualified to judge it).
Digging the engine lifting attachment too. Mart. |

Re: Engine pics walt dupont
That red one is a wild homby, 276, Esky 400JR cam, somekind of racing pistoins that pop up, had to use copper gaskets and a .020 copper shim to bally get v.040 overv poiston, 1.600 intake valves, going to try that Holley 600 carb, I know it a little big but I had it and i can play with it, 12# Webber flywheel. All balanced. I cain't wait to run it on my runing stand. I don't know what I'm going to do with it. Walt

Re: Engine pics walt dupont
Nice work, Walt, as always - it's so nice when a plan comes together!
You mentioned getting the "hot" flattie running on your test stand - I personally can't wait to get my engine test stand running as I have a couple flatties (and a couple newer engines as well that are "supposed" to be good) I would like to test before installing them in projects. From past experience, it does save alot of time and aggravation - |
