Not too many. I asked around and found one locally through an auto paint store.

With respect, there are still lots of strippers around, but those who paint stripes, i.e. stripers, they're getting scarce, especially the ones who only do it free hand.

McPeak in Riverside, CA did the lettering on my '39 p/u. He's been doing pinstriping and lettering since the 70's. Obviously too far away for you but they are out there. Ask around at your local swap meets or car shows. There has to be someone in your neck of the woods who can lay some stripes for you. Good luck in your search.

we have a couple of guys in anchorage that are pretty good and another out here in Wasilla that is pretty good. only bad thing about these guys is that sometimes they get carried away, and want to "do it their way " no mater what you may want. my car has no pin stripes because of this.

There are several pin stripers with shops in SoCal. Dennis Jones in Whittier, CA who has been doing it for 47 years freehand pinstriped my truck. There is usually a group of pin stripers setup at the larger car shows -Goodguys, Grand National Roadster Show, etc. Also, post your question on the HAMB. You might have better luck over there locating a striper that’s close to you.

My son works at a shop in Phoenix where they build "custom" cars and tells me that an "old school" pinstriper comes in and does work for them. He says that the guy is a real artist and is quick to share tips with him. So they do exist. Another skill that is fading away.

Go to any higher end car dealer and ask them who their pinstriper is. They normally make the rounds at a different one on a particular day of the week. I'm talking high end: M-B, Lexus, Porsche, etc.

The dealer will have the cars lined up and the striper comes by and knocks them out.

Some are better then others, but you can look at a car on the lot to see their work before you decide to go with them.

Every July at the Syracuse Nationals Car Show, they have a building where pinstripers do their thing for charity. http://www.artiesparty.com/

Also, many indoor car shows (off season) will have a gathering of the Pin Heads, or groups that go by other names. In Chicago it is the Brushmasters and they get exposure for potential customers as they stripe and sign paint various items and as noted above their work is auctioned off for charity. Check the following link-

There is a fellow in NW Tennessee, can't recall the town. He goes by Dee Zee. You might google that name. He does very good work, freehand only.

Yosemity Sam Radoff, formerly from Detroit, is still practising the art in Delaware Ontario, just west of London, Ont. He will come to you or as I did he striped my truck in his driveway. It is done very subtely, not like in 1957 when the stripes were on every raised panel and followed the lines of the fenders, etc. This picture is interesting in that my grandson's reflection, (at a car show), is shown in the tailgate panel where Sam signed the artwork.
Cheers, Byron.

You might also check any nearby motorcycle shows. They always seem to show up at the ones I go to.
