Default Cracked Valve Seat

My flathead v8 keeps throwing me curve balls.

Looked like one of the valve seats was cracked so i took the engine over to Vintage Hot Rods and had John look at it. He magnafluxed the area and said indeed the seat was cracked. But what was the surprise was that there was no cracking in the block around that seat. It is one of the middle exhaust seats.

Now, how do I go about removing the seat? It looks to be original as there are inserts on the exhaust and not on the intake. I suppose I could weld a bead on the inside of the seat and remove it? But what about a replacement?

Any input out there?

Here is a link to a recent discussion on valve seat inserts. Replacing shouldn't be an issue for a competent machine shop.

Count you blessing to the flathead gods. Often that crack migrates down into the port and cylinder.
