Rear Panel Under Trunk
I am replacing the rear panel under the trunk on my 30 coupe. I bought a repop panel and it arrived with some slight damage which I can repair. What I need is measurements taken across (width) the top and bottom of a 'good' panel. This is a sample picture of the panel I am referring to:
The measurements on the repop panel are 35 5/8" across the top of the panel and 35 7/16" across the bottom. I would have assumed that These measurements would be the same but I don't know. I realize that I have to account for paint thickness but if one of you could give me the measurements on a 'good' panel off a 30 or 31 coupe it would sure help. TIA, Tony |

Re: Rear Panel Under Trunk
I hope I didn't confuse the request but measurements taken off a panel still on a painted coupe would work just as well.

Re: Rear Panel Under Trunk
here are the measurements for a '30 coupe. This is an original panel that had no evidence of old damage when stripped to bare metal. Across the top = 35 7/16" and across the bottom is 35 1/4". Hope this helps.

Re: Rear Panel Under Trunk
I like using original pieces....but you'r committed..
On the 28-29's,...that panel is shorter on the sides than in the middle, in height. Also, it has a curve to it on the top edge....it's not straight across..this is inportant so the quarters and the lid/trunk fit properly when shut.. |

Re: Rear Panel Under Trunk
Thank you Lindy, I really appreciate the info. d.j. I'm starting to think I can use my original panel also. I need to replace both damaged ends but using Lindy's measurements I think I can get it done. The repop panel is really disappointing it's pretty thin, I think 20 gauge versus 18 and the bead at the bottom is 7/8" wide versus 1 1/8" on the original. Thanks again guys.

Re: Rear Panel Under Trunk
I bought a lot of sheet metal replacement pieces a few years back. Every One was only a starting point for additional work to get a proper fit, and as you said they were 2 GA thinner as well.

Re: Rear Panel Under Trunk
jw hash, good point I noticed that also. In addition, the integral brace on the replacement is pretty flimsy. In the end I decided to send the repop panel back and am going to repair my original. Thanks for all the help.
