Default Rust protection for springs

Recently cleaned the rear spring assembly for the '40 and am ready to reinstall it. What would be a good way to help prevent surface rust on the spring. Would paint work, or would the flex of the spring affect it ?

I did my 36 spring with CRC Dry Graphite Lube, essentially a spray paint with graphite in it. It made the leaves very slippery, and then I wrapped the whole kit in PVC underground pipe wrap tape, Wonder #41300 10 mil, x2 in, This keeps out all the grit and flexes to allow the leaves to move freely. No grease to attract and hold grit either.

Asbury make a product called Slip plate, basically a dry film graphite lubricant. I have used it on my T's and F150's.

A one quart can is more than enough for several vehicles, good luck and let us know how you make out.

The spring should have a lubricating fitting in the center bolt, it looks like a grease fitting, but if it was greased it will be internally clogged with grease, should be lubed with spring lube, a mixture of ice machine oil(thin oil), talc, and a dash of ground asbestos, 75%auto trans fluid, 25%talc, talc is one of the ingredients in slip plate. The leaves have groove down center to channel lubricant to the tips-- unless spring was greased, then they will be full of hard grease, once the spring is lubed you will find out how good your shocks are

What is fluid film. I am not looking to lube the spring, just keep it from rusting after cleaning. Good points about dead grease clogging the spring leaf grooves. I have seen that on other springs.

I had all the leaves of my 32 springs powder coated. These are new Posies springs, so they have the plastic 'pucks' in them for lubrication. If I was using stock springs, would probably use a spray on graphite lubricant and wrap them.

It's a spray protectant / lubricant but it's based on lanolin instead of petroleum. I got a couple of cans from a local parts dealer.

Good for spraying in wheel wells of daily driver pickups for winter as well.
