When installing the springs the tight coils go to the guide and open coils to the keeper, these came in a kit , all other times i have had a regular coils . Am i correct tight coils up ?

You are right - the tight coils should always be fitted opposite from the valve stem end so that the lighter spring end (less mass) moves with the valve.
