Re: 46-48 popularity
Reminds me of the debate Lincoln guys get into about '40-'41 Continentals vs. '42-'48s. Sort of like arguing about which kind of BBQ is better, pork or beef

Re: 46-48 popularity
just my 2 cents but all ford cars have something everyone dislikes or like. but it is all about what the owner who bought it in the first place thinks. take mine for example . i saved it form the crusher. it was like rip van winkle ...slept for 18 years! 1989 till 2005. i woke the car up on mothers day. still along way from show room or even nice, but she is mine. and we all do save history when we make them as we like.

Re: 46-48 popularity
I have a '46 Tudor and realize that a car's looks are a very personal decision each person makes for himself. Looks aside, I find my car very driveable and far more comfortable than many other older models - except when you get into the really high priced ones (Packard, Duesenburg, Auburn, Cadillac, etc).

Re: 46-48 popularity
Here's my ugly one: '46 rag top frame off restoration, Columbia two speed, perfect paint, mild drop, mildly rodded with offy heads, dual 97s, dual exhaust, fatter tires, mint stock interior with radio, heater, clock working, squeaky clean undercarriage, just terrible...
the front view of this car is the smiling face of post war USA. |

(Wish mine was as ugly.)

Re: 46-48 popularity
Well below is my '47 Fordor; not quite as "ugly" as some of y'alls but for $400 off CL I can't complain too loud. Proof that they are still out there at reasonable prices. My son saw it advertized and got really lucky, as it was only about 15 miles from home and he said the guy just wanted it gone.
It'll get 'uglier' with time. All stock (far as I know) and nearly complete, fairly solid with some floor holes to be fixed. When picked up it had stale gas in the tank, newish/yellow coolant in the radiator and what looked like crude oil in the crankcase but the flathead is locked. That's about as far as we've got with it so far. Hoping to dedicate some time on it next summer. |

Re: 46-48 popularity
This is my 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Fordor. I have had since 2007 and I never thought it was ugly. It has a built 59AB flathead in it. This is a picture of it from a few years ago. The wheels are now light gray instead of red.

Re: 46-48 popularity
I don't think anyone can say they are not popular with hot rodders. They're everywhere and they were definitely the car of choice for the Fat Fendered movement in the late '80s. Many of them are still victims of the monochromatic/paint everything trend even today.
I had a '46 tudor, and my Dad had a '46 tudor with a 312, a '47 business coupe and a '47 coupe. All are gone now, but I still have a soft spot for them.

Re: 46-48 popularity
Nice! Looks about like what I'd like to do with mine - get it running, make it safe, clean it up a bit and have fun with it. The interior of mine is pretty-much trashed so I'll have to do somethign with it but it's going to be low-budget and as much period correct as possible.

Re: 46-48 popularity
I love the 46 2 door and convertable, building my 3rd 46 convert now. They are wider and longer than earlier Fords, better ride and more room for my old and tired body. I still love my 40 coupe, hard to beat that style.

Re: 46-48 popularity
My first "old" Ford was a '47 tudor. It is the only car I ever made money on. Doubled my money in fact. I bought it from a fellow that lived on a back road for $50. I towed it about 7 miles to my dad's service station with a pipe and chain. Parked it around back, but it was on the "main drag." It sat there a couple of months before some guys from Raleigh came along and offered me $100. Sold.
Don't forget how beautiful the Sportsmans are! High-dollar too! I also like to see '46-'48's with the upper grille bar painted body color (like paul2748's). |

Re: 46-48 popularity
I have owned my 47 Fordor for 32yrs., I like this style over the 46 because of where the parking lites are located and the guage faces better with the gold. I especially like the Fordor because of the uniqueness of the suicide door. Old Henry has one real nice 47 Fordor....and that is what I am shootin for sometime in the future. I will add that I don't care how cheap you aquire one, you will be puttin some in $, this is no cheap man's hobby or love of interest in the old automobiles even if they repro most of everything. It's worth it!

Re: 46-48 popularity
Yeah my car is 12 volt, but I am still using a generator. The antenna on the back was for a cb that I used to have in the car. I am also trying to keep the car period correct as possible and safe to drive.
