Default ‘34 Roadster - Brakes Shuddering

Hi all,

I’m experiencing shuddering in the brakes (car starts to shake too) on a ‘34 roadster when coming to a stop, about 10% of the time. Still have the original mechanical brakes, never touched them. Just curious if anyone has advice on where to start for troubleshooting/fixing?

Thank you so much! I appreciate it.

Brake shoe lining material - 'woven'?

Could be contamination such as grease on one or more brake shoes.

Very good point .
I have had success with this by cleaning shoes-drums with brake cleen and lightly sanding the shoes . Just to de-glaze them .

The zerks on the rear axle ends can be a major problem if greased a lot .

If it is grease or gear oil contaminate it is best to replace the shoes/pads however you can boil it out if they are saturated. Extreme caution should be exercised with a fire extinguisher for gas on hand.

Remove the brakes from the car, go to a safe place well away from the car. Dip the shoe in gas, ignite, then wipe away oil/ grease as it bubbles to the surface after flame has subsided. Depending on the level of saturation you may need to repeat a few times.

No front wheel bearing grease seals until the '35 models.
