Default Gleaner engine pictures??

I've been making pretty good progress the preservation restoration of a 1936 Model A Gleaner engine power unit. Getting pretty close to finishing up the engine and will start working on the hand clutch, control panel, radiator and the frame the engine mounts into after the engine is completed.
A couple of years ago I started a thread https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...gine&showall=1
asking for pictures of one of these units. A picture in post #20 by Updraught is one of the best that I have seen but it like all of the others are really only showing the front of the engine. I would like to see pictures that show how the muffler was set up. Anyone have pictures showing this or any other views? As you can see in the pictures the manifold on these engines goes straight out to the rear and not down like on cars and trucks. Maybe someone has or knows someone that has a complete Gleaner unit and could take some photos for me.

Dave. I remember your initial post about the 2 diamond engines you acquired. And now one of them is almost finished. Great job!
Looking to your photos from two years ago, I saw a hand clutch on your engine with a manufacture tag. What is the name of the company that made that clutch? I had an old Leroy engine on a one row Gehl silage chopper with a Rockford clutch. Rockford, Illinois. Just curious. Love the "Alderized" finish!

May I assume this power unit was on a Gleaner combine? Gleaner used Ford engines on self propelled combines in the 50’s and perhaps beyond. As I recalled we had a ‘58 with a fixed grain head.

I went to the ford garage site and looked at the 30 Gleaner original manual, the drawing shows the muffler turning up and the tail pipe turning 30 degrees rearward of the engine or out of side on the combine! Also the air filer is high up on the grain bin. Please show the other side of your engine the oil filler breather looks interesting! Keep us posted with pictures :-)

Looking further on the site the Gleaner 1936 model NR original manual the muffler turns upward and backward at a 30 degree angle behind the round fuel tank.

This one is probably not powered by a Model A engine.

Mike, It is a Twin City clutch out of Racine Wisconsin.
A year or so ago I had a gent and his son who was about 10 years old walk up my driveway after seeing my AA truck and asked to look at it. The boy was super interested in the truck and old machinery in general. I gave them a tour of my shop and as we were looking at the two gleaner engines I commented that I was having a devil of a time figuring out how to get the hand clutch assembly removed from the engine. The father looked a bit closer at it and noticed the Twin City name plate on it. He grinned and said the his brother was one of the upper management guys at Twin City!
He reached out to him and his brother sent me copies of the original drawings for manufacturing the clutch assembly.
Is this a small world or what???!!

Glad you like the finish. Seems that I'm somewhat fond of polished rust.

Todd as much as I like old rusty stuff I am sort of enjoying being married and if I were to drag a combine home I'm thinking that I might not be celebrating too many more anniversary's.

I have an exhaust manifold like that on a core engine in my shop. If someone asks, I tell them it was an experimental manifold heater. That usually causes a few seconds of silence before I hear "but wouldn't that ..........."

Fun is where you find it.

A bit clearer photos here
https://www.thecombineforum.com/media/1938-gleaner.76/
Most likely the exhaust just goes up into the air so sparks don't start a fire.
