Re: New Battery
I bought 2 new 6V batteries from Advance Auto...$76.00 each...I usually get 5-7 years out of a battery.

Re: New Battery
We buy ours at Tractor Supply, have gotten ten years out of their batteries. Average seven to eight years. Around $75.00. Enjoy.

Re: New Battery
In the mid seventies we purchased a Model A that had been sitting in a barn unused since the end of WWII. There was an old 6 volt battery, covered with dust and dirt, sitting in a corner of the barn. We put water in it, charged it up, and it lasted in that car for eight more years. You just never know. Enjoy.

Re: New Battery
Group 1 for 6V and Group 25 for 12V fit into the original battery support bracket.

Re: New Battery
Robw, this is really a crap shoot. Having said that I believe that most 6 volt batteries regardless of manufacturer are good. Some having higher cold cranking capabilities than others. A small amount are defective, regardless of manufacturer. But most important of all for the ones that are free from defect is the care they receive and the conditions under which they are used.

Re: New Battery
The Optima Red Top is a great battery. Of course you need to buy the hold down made for it. I was having generator problems .No charge at all. Charged the Optima and ran all day on a club tour through the Malibu Mountains and still had battery for lights on the way home. Expensive but worth the money.

Re: New Battery
If you have a Rural King close by, there Group-1 battery sells for $39.99 made by Exide.
https://www.ruralking.com/battery-6v-625-cca.html It's going to be hard to beat that price or value.

Re: New Battery
Any farm rated 6v battery will work just fine. How you use and maintain the battery will determine the service it will give you. #1. Never let it discharge. #2. Periodically charge the battery with a trickle charger. #3. Maintain the electrolyte level. #4. Make sure the generator is charging at a proper rate, voltage regulator preferred.
