Default 1939 Ford Deluxe Roadster

1939 Ford Deluxe Roadster. Yes, you read it right, it is a Roadster not a Convertible. It has Side Curtains, not Wind-up Windows. Actually, Ford Australia offered both a Roadster and Convertible for 1939 and 1940. After 1940, the selection of available Body Styles available in Australia was reduced to just a 4 door Sedan and Coupe Ute from 1941 onwards. This survivor was owned by a mate who sold it a few years back. I would love to get the Body Number of this rare car to add to my Files. Does anyone know of the where-abouts of this car? It may have been exported to the USA? Any leads appreciated. Regards Mercman <><

That blue 39 is sharp! Very interesting, thanks for taking time to share with everyone.

It as a back seat that is under cover when the top is up. Why was it not called a phaeton?

They don't come any rarer than this, an Australia 1940 Ford Deluxe Roadster, body number 16. 1940 was the last year that Ford Australia offered a soft top Ford V8. From 1941 onwards, only the 4 door Sedan and Coupe Ute were offered. A Panel Van was also available for 1946 to 1948.

I remember back in the late fifties-early sixties, there was a big debate going on in Hot Rod magazine about whether there was a '37 roadster or not. I would have loved to have brought one of these over, converted it to left hand drive, and watch the "experts" freak out!
