Default Four Post Lift Recommendations….

Any current thoughts on four post lifts for a Model A? Good or bad experiences? Getting too old to crawl on the floor though the ‘31 sits up pretty high. Any decent brands that have installation available?

Bought my Back Yard Buddy 4 post lift 25 plus years ago. I use it most every day
and have 0 problems with it. Made in the USA, claims to be the safest lift made.
IMO it is quality made. I installed it.

Am I really seeing one inch of concrete under that lift? Nothing on that lift gave way, that one was the floor under it. A garage here in town has gotten many years out of his Mohawk lifts.

Did you post over on the MTFCA Forum ?

Freight is expensive - buy one close.
Don’t buy used.
Hire someone with experience to install it.

Almost every shop in town use Bend Pak lifts, both 2 and 4 post. that tells me something.

I have 2 Bendpacs, use them most every day, 13 yrs no problems. My HD 12 has a trolley jack that allows me to pick-up the front or rear. I have no need for a 2 post. If you are mechanically inclined you can install it yourself. Directions are good. I did both of mine alone with a floor jack and some jack stands. The HD 9 can be mobile or bolted down, the HD 12/14 need to be bolted down, due to one ramp being adjustable for width.

I have a 4 post lift. I have put all my vehicles up on it including a tractor. Mine has locks (as I believe most do) to prevent it coming down due to loss of hydraulic pressure. I love mine.

Advantage Lifts has purchased Backyard Buddy. The Backyard Buddy is still made in America with U.S. or Canadian steel. I have had mine for nearly 20 years with no problems. Installed it myself.

2 other things to consider when looking at buying a lift...

1. Do you have a slab with a minimum of 4" thickness? For most lift manufacturers, 4" is the minimum with quite a few preferring 6".

2. What is the height of the area where you are looking to install the lift. Be sure you have enough room to raise the lift WITH the car on top. Nothing like raising a car to find the car roof to building ceiling has a conflict of trying to share the same space.

As far as installation. There is a guy out of Waller that is on the approved assemblers list for Advantage.

My 4 post is not fastened down and is very stable, in fact it came w/a set of 4 casters, (easy to put on and remove) for moving it around if needed. There is holes for fastening it down if desired.

You may have to modify your garage door to hug the ceiling rather than retract to the usual same elevation as the opening header.

Good to hear about the recommendation for Advantage lifts. My uncle is looking to get a 4-post lift soon after finished installing the suspension from 4Wheelonline onto the truck and start renovating the garage.

With a 4 post how do you adjust brakes? Repack wheel bearings? Do suspension work? Rotate tires? A 2 post lift is your best option.

Air over hydraulic jack bridge mounted between the runners. Or for the unfortunates, a plain jack in the plain bridge.

See post number 8 regarding a trolley jack.
