Default Phaeton body rivets?

I exposed the rear quarter of my ‘29 phaeton to repair the post bracket that holds the support for the folded top. (Another thread)

There is a support directly below the door latch area that was riveted through to the wheel well area with two large rivets. In the 70’s when the car was restored, they didn’t bother to drill out the rivets and redo. They just tack welded the bracket. The tack broke and so the bracket provides no support. Still, it seems to be pretty solid.

So what would you do? Drill the rivets or tack weld (again)? Or leave it alone?

I would drill out the rivets if they have sheared flush they might just punch out . Get suitable bolts chuck them in a variable speed drill and using a angle grinder with a flapper disc fashion look alike rivet heads . When they are inserted they look original and nobody can see the nuts and lock washers under the trim on the inside . I put my trusty Bosch drill in a padded vise and dress the bolt head with the flapper disc works a treat and wear eye protection of course .If the failed tack weld is preventing the bracket from seating fully home you must remove it but for sure you know this , just sayin !!!
