Shifter fork ID
The backstory, I put a 81A double detent shifter assembly on a transmission I'm putting together and it wouldn't go in second gear deep enough to engage but would go in third gear so deep the synchro hub would rub against the cluster gear so hard it would almost lock the transmission. I happened to have another shifter assembly handy with the 91A fork and it worked fine so I replaced the shifter forks with the 91A forks and cured the problem. The one on the left is the 91A the other is stamped 46 and as you can tell there is about 1/4 inch difference. I'm just curious what this fork is for as I have never run into this before. Thanks, Dale

Re: Shifter fork ID
The double detent tower came out in '38 prior to the improved loose syncro trans,
in '39 the 91A fork was introduced..........BUT..........many 1939 Fords, deluxe included, were factory equipped with the '38 trans and gear set. Charlie ny |

Thanks Charlie, so you think it is a 38? One thing I forgot to mention it is the wide fork that fits the later synchro.

Re: Shifter fork ID
How come I remember that the part number for that fork is 91A-7230?
