Default flow testing Model A Zenith carb jets

Can anyone explain the reason for flow testing Model A Zenith carb jets with a 36 inch water column instead of the 37 1/4inch column as used by Ford? Thank you.

Here are some charts to make life easy.

http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/jetflowrates.htm

I tested many jets using the Ford column length.

I did a lot of error checking and repeating and found the results were very consistant.

Most seemed to flow too much by a little to a lot and some were on the money. A few did not have a nice stream indicating there was a problem with the hole and flow.

I have rebuilt and sold over 200 model A zenith carbs and have always gone by the drill size for all the jets...Merry Christmas

One thing I have seen someplace is; when soldering the hole up to resize, how thick the solder is before you redrill the hole can change the rate of the flow. So if it calls for X size hole, might have to go to larger or smaller drill to get the correct flow.
