Don't mess with my quail

The thermo quail cap on our '28 coupe has evidently leaked before we got the car because it had silicon sealant between the base and the bird. Occasionally it would spit out a little water. The other day someone messed with it, knocking off part of the sealer, and I believe breaking off a couple of the interlocking tabs. I don't see how I can fix it. Maybe some JB Weld? I might have to just buy another one. The one on the car is probably a repop.

I have two friends with quails on their radiators. Both are loose and wobble front to back. I'm not sure they are a good idea. I'll take a motometer every time.

I bought one from Macs about 5 or 6 years ago. Came with a good rubber seal and does not leak. I love the look of the flying quail and have been very satisfied with the quality. It is the one with the thermo in it, which is nice. When I'm driving and everything is normal, I can just see a touch of the red in the bottom of the thermo.

I have a thermo- quail on one of our model A's . I had to seal the gasket in place with red high temp silicone sealer to stop the leaks around the cap . I prefer the look of just an original or original style radiator cap . I use and prefer an inside temperature gauge .

I replaced the seal that came with it with an O-ring. Never had a problem.

What Dick said. Plus if you need an even tighter seal with the 'O' ring, place a brass gas gauge slip ring under the 'O' ring. https://www.brattons.com/brass-gas-g...ng-washer.html

mine came with a shit gasget that was rubber and to thin flat O ring. got an o ring the right size and been happy
