Allan,

You can find the Model A and Model B serial numbers here:

Hmmm. I note that the sources for the VanPelt data do not include a single Ford Motor Company document. How can third party information be more reliable than Ford's own records?

For starters, the last '32 V-8 number and first '33 V-8 number are both at odds with Ford's records (which are available at the Benson Ford Research Center in Dearborn). (I'll post those tomorrow.)

I recently bought a '48 tudor sedan street rod that had been registered and titled in Oregon. The VIN on the title matches an OR VIN tag (not an oem tag) on the frame, but starts as B99... vs 899... I'm assuming that at some point in it's life, that the 1st character was transposed and it's been like that ever since. Any ideas how to resolve this, or should I just ignore it?

I believe that The Standard Catalog of American Cars contains the majority of info on specifications, VIN's etc..
There are two additions.. 1805-1942 and 1945-75
"ricklove" There is a very good chance that you are misreading the Ser number on your '48.. The original numbers were hand stamped, most likely by employees that were only given a few minutes to do so..
As I have stated before, far to much importance is placed on old Ford serial numbers, which mean very little.. If the local DMV does not raise a fuse, adopt the position that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"..
I have read many articles about Henry Ford over-riding the rejection of what he considered minor flaws in vehicles because the cost to correct the flaw out-weighed the end result..
