Learnt my lesson........
I have been struggling to get my 39-40 brakes working on my AV8. The rears work fine when the front hoses are clamped off, and are all original Ford parts. A while back I had the front apart and replaced the cylinders and shoes with brand new chinese repro ones. I got a good deal on them, so I thought, why not?
This weekend, in desperation I ripped them apart and put the original Ford cylinders and shoes back on, after giving them a good cleanup. Hey presto! Great brakes! What the heck was I thinking? Moral of the story..... refurbished original Ford parts beat the crap out of chinese parts! |

the shoes came from Macs, and the cylinders were So-cal. No branding. I honestly dont know what was wrong with them, I just could not get brake pressure. I suspect the problem was not the shoes, but the cylinders. All I know is, when I put original Ford parts back on, I had instant brakes. |

Re: Learnt my lesson........
the problem with the current replacement brake cylinders from china-no matter who sells them, they must be from the same source. I have had ones from Early Ford V8 and ones from Autozone and both had the same problem-the inlet port holes are in the wrong location, they feed the fluid thru too close to the brake cup washers and when the shoes are pushed completly in the leak past the cups-one solution that seems to work is grinding a little off the ends of the shoes that fit into the cylinders-thus not pushing the metal pucks and the cups in to far--such is the life of a restoration of old cars and chinese parts!! Just what worked for me
