@mercurycyclone That book looks like true unobtanium - wow ! To my eye, the maroon in the book appears both considerably darker and less blue than the photos posted by @ petehoovie

The guy with the 34 wagon needs to give his 33 crank hole cover/shield to the guy with the 33. Then they would both be correct as far as that bit of trivia is concerned. 34 didn't have a crank hole cover but 33 did.

Either way, the crank hole covers were aftermarket items, not Ford-released accessories.

I might be wrong but I think in 34 and up to maybe 39, the wagons were considered commercial vehicles and color combos were maybe different then the passenger cars. Somewhere I think I read where my 40 wagon was the first year not listed as a commercial. David or Kube probably have the answer, interesting that black fenders do show up on earlier wagons newer then 33.

Robert,

The standard paint scheme for both '33 and '34 U.S. station wagons, which Ford did indeed classify as commercial vehicles, was Mountain Brown for the cowl and hood and black fenders. I'd have to do more research regarding those station wagons (and other commercial vehicles) sold in Canada as there body color fenders, etc. were an extra cost option on '33s, unlike in the U.S.

As indicated above, station wagons sold to fleet accounts could basically end up being darn near any color, including their fenders and even their chassis, depending on the size of the fleet and what the fleet was willing to pay Ford for non-standard colors and the extent of their application.

One unrelated question which the various photographs have raised - horn(s).

Single or double ? Black or bright ?

Thank you.

I think in general, standard models had a single black horn and deluxe cars had 2 with bright parts or entirely bright. At least that is the case for my 33 standard phaeton.

Given that it was a commercial vehicle and a standard one at that (no dash ash tray or cigar lighter), one all black horn as shown in the Ford archives photo above. Of all the photos in this thread, that's the only one that matters for as-built reference purposes.

There is one on Hemmings website right now in the auction side, in the same color, on the East Coast, and in the description has the ridiculous claim that there’s only 19 of these left in the world

One can only wonder where they come up with drivel like that. I guess it's a common practice to enhance the uniqueness of what's on the block. Auctioneers are especially prone to making undocumented assertions
