Re: Another new thing on F1
As far as I know, the indicators in the speedo were never functional from the factory thru '52, it's a puzzle why they put them in there. You can hook them up for sure. Ford used the same speedo until the early '60's in the Parcel Delivery trucks, and they were functional in those >'53.
When you say you are using the front parking lights for turn signals, do you mean you converted the sockets in them to dual-filament so you have both parking lights and turn signals, or are you using the single-filament stock bulb only for turn signals? If the latter, those "extra" wires would be for the parking lights, wouldn't they? The holes in the speedo appeared to me to be for a somewhat smaller-diameter socket than the other sockets used for gauge illumination. Someone may have forced the bigger ones in there, making them hard to remove. Try prying with a screwdriver (disconnect battery first!).

Re: Another new thing on F1
All of it is a problem for me! With a knee replacement and neck fusion I was told I would not be able to keep working on cars (and a lot of other things). Well, they are wrong, but it is much more difficult for sure. The older you get the harder it becomes, but then it is fun or I wouldn't do it.

Re: Another new thing on F1
My indicator switch doesn't light up the small lights among the clocks,I have installed small motorcycle beepers so I know the flashers are working and I know to switch em off when the turn is done...a pig getting under the dash especially a big old boy like me...out comes the seat.

Re: Another new thing on F1
I am using parking lights in my 52 as turn signals. I converted to 12 volts and replaced the entire parking light units many years ago. They are two filament bulbs and work with parking lights on.
Also when I got my "very stock" truck it had lights in the speedo turn signal arrow indicators. Just changed the bulbs and when I wired up the parking/turn lights the dash indicators worked. Too long ago to remember what was done, just saying you can make them work. Chap Last edited by chap52; 08-18-2018 at 07:04 PM. Reason: spelling |

Chap
I did same thing with my 52, although still six volt positive grd. Had to rewire everything. Used parking lights as just turn signals. I did wire in the directionals in the dash and installed LED tail/brake lights.
