Default What' Wrong With These '40 Splash Aprons

Just hung new splash aprons on my '40 Commercial for a test fit. Are they the correct ones? Have I installed them wrong? They extend down below the fender and it looks terrible. Really detracts from the fender profile.

I tried to take some photos of mine on my 40 coupe for you.
1st pix is driver side showing inner edge of brace on frame.
2nd pix is bottom of pass side fender where it bolts to fender tab.
3rd pix is pas side where top of brace bolts to fender tab.
Next two are catalog pic from 1990.
Last pix is of pass side front fender.
The brace does not drop down below the bottom edge of the fender as you showed. I tried to take more pix but tire got in the way. What you may have to do is actually bend the long legged brace so as to pull the entire piece higher up into the fender so bottom edge is flush. It may not be a direct bolt in and need some adjustment.
The red plates are where I rest my floor jack so as not to bend the frame rail..

You need to remove them and take a picture with measurements and post. I think you may have a 99A Mercury brace rather than a 91A Ford brace.

I put a set of the Drake splash aprons on my 39 Dlx. The long brace that goes to the hole in the bottom of the fender was not anything like the original. I drilled out the spot welds holding the brace and made some new braces like the originals were and welded them to the apron. They then fit like they should. You wouldn't think you would have to go to all that work to use a new part, but very typical of repro parts. Good luck with yours.

Here are 2 Pics with the measurements Dick wanted. The piece of bracket that was left on the fender pretty well matched the new one. I may simplly try rotating them back in the morning. Thank all of you very much for your input, I do value it! Dennis/Arkansas

The new ones I got from Drake a couple of years ago fit okay on my '40 pickup.

Thank you all very much! Sometimes I'm as dumb as a "bag of hammers". I simply had put them on incorrectly. I merely rotated the bottom edge back into the fender and retightened them. They now fit perfectly. They are Drake's aprons and I am well pleased with them. Farmers with machinery, go figure!! Dennis/Arkansas

When I put mine on, I had to spend some time deciphering how they fit as well. It had been a few years since I removed the old ones.
