Ford carburetor castings were gold chromate coated. There are instructions on how to do this in the back pages of the Ford Carburetor booklet, but the chemicals are very toxic and need to be used with extreme caution. but it does give a nice gold finish.

If you are asking relative to the original finish on a '35 carburetor, it was plain, not yellow chromate.

There is no product available today that doesn’t make your carburetor look like a painted floozie. You’ve heard the one about lipstick on a pig?

Sorry guys, I was half asleep when I posted.

What I really want to know is the treatment of the fuel pump cover.

I've never seen a cap that wasn't rusty.

Easy; cadmium plated. (Only the answer is easy as cad plating sources are drying faster than a spring shower on hot paving.)

Cad plating option? Anyone have a recommendation on a paint that looks like cadmium finish? I would like to paint my aftermarket voltage regulator to look more like the original cad plated cover.

Rattle can paint in either matte or dull aluminum duplicate the appearance of cad plating. Not normally seen in hardware stores, but it is available online.

I have found that Rust-Oleum matte aluminum (as Dave had advised) replicates the finish on the voltage regulator cover rather nicely.
I have tried Eastwood's "cadmium paint" and have not been pleased with the results.

I looked on line and at Walmart and could not locate the recommended spray paints. I did find Rust-oleum product # 327907 on the shelf. I sprayed a test and the finish is Matte. Looks like a good match for Cad. It is listed as "metallic aluminum"
