Default Floaters or Not?

I've never looked at a Model A brake set up before, and can't find pictures showing brakes with floaters and brakes without floaters. So when I pull my front drums tomorrow and look inside, how can I quickly recognize if I'm looking at a floater setup?

First there are 2 types of floaters. One costs $25-30 and has a floating pin in the actuating wedge. the other type, Flathead Ted's costs $200 or more and doesn't use the upper long spring. Search this website for more floater information.

Thanks Herb. I searched but can't find pictures. Schematics are hard for me to visualize. I'll be able to see what is going on by your description. I'm up to that!

If the Flathead Ted floaters are present, the adjusting wedge turns smoothly, rather than ratcheting like the stock wedge, so you would know that without taking the drums off.

Teds floaters swap the upper adjuster for a new one with a thin locknut so you can tell without removing the drum.
