Default Interior Door Handle Spring

I was finally able to get a door spring set to fix the broken passenger side interior door handle spring. There are no instructions. Here's the toughy...for the spring that goes over the door latch rod and returns the interior handle to its down position, does it go over the rod with the coils towards the engine or towards the rear of the car? What this means is, does the spring pressure work by expanding the coil of the spring or by shrinking it? Anyone who can answer this is truly a master A owner, or you have a door with the passenger door panel off and can look for me. Thanks

If'n one pulls the handle to open the door, it would be to the left of the picture.

I like to come back and post the results of your help. Proud to say "I dood it"!
The new spring is installed and works fine. Had a bear getting it over the latch rod, but that wasn't as bad as getting the door panel clips back on. I was prepared though.....I always buy twice as many panel clips as is required, cause when I'm done I will be driving around with half of them rattling at the bottom of the door frame. Those who have messed with door panels know what I mean.

Glad I could help. Just went through replacing the spring on the drivers door and was going to replace the one on the passenger door, but since it wasn't broken, decided not to. The aftermarket spring issn't as heavy, but was still a pain to install on the rod.

P.S. - It was my first post on this forum.

Not much into stock restoration stuff - mostly hot rod related builds (hope that's not a bad word here).
