I don't remember the correct nomenclature, but they are used on spark plug wires to reduce spark interference on your radio.

Could'a used 'em my early-mid '60s driving to high school in the '40 half-ton pickup's 49 Plymouth massive radio so large I kept it on the passenger floor. (99.9% buzzzzzz) depending upon the revs of the flathead.

When I got my very original '51 Club Coupe in 1987, it had one of those in the wire between the coil and the distributor. The car always ran a little sour back then, and removing the suppressor cleared it up. Please note : This was an original "radio delete" car.
