Alternative Air Filter Replacement
Firstly, I know LOTS of folks on this forum are totally against using air filters on Model A’s, and I respect that opinion. I don’t want to reignite any bad feelings about using air filters.
However, my car came with an air filter, it’s dirty, and I replaced it with Bratton’s part number 14700, which is substantially smaller than the filter that came on the car. If I recall correctly, the Snyder’s air filter is the same size as the Bratton’s air filter. The filter that came on the car is 4-1/4” round by 5-5/8” tall. Does anyone know of an alternative part number and/or a supplier for this size? Maybe Rural King, AutoZone, etc.? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Alternative Air Filter Replacement
It can be really difficult to find replacement filters for some of the old ones that were used. I gave up and continue to clean the one I have.

Re: Alternative Air Filter Replacement
I felt very strongly that my motor should have an air filter so I installed one. The filter resistance (slight as it is) is enough to cause a rich condition. I had a h**l of a time because I would not accept that the filter was the problem. The problem is that the Zenith is not "balanced" like other carbs. It is a pretty complicated process to do that so I gave up, I'm not using a filter. If yours is not causing problem then I would have to guess that either the carb has been altered or possibly smaller jets were installed? That is an idea that I did not pursue.

I don’t know if the carburetor has been modified or not. It runs great, and the plugs were nice and tan when I checked them a few days ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Alternative Air Filter Replacement
I use a high flow air filter from smith and jones, bone stock carb and it runs fine, no problems to report. if you want an air filter that doesn't require messing with the carb, get the high flow filter that slings under the carb. Just turn down the mix knob a tad if it needs it.

Re: Alternative Air Filter Replacement
Shew
Here is what I have used for over 30 years. it is a Fram CA 218, Wix 42003, or NAPA 2003. I cut off the top metal cover just at the edge of the cover. Then you need to drill a hole in the bottom plate. Then you need a piece of threaded rod to screw into the Air Mase head and it should be lock nutted. Slip the air filter on and the top should slide into the AM head. put a nut on to hold the filter on and cut off the rest of the threaded rod. It is long and looks like the wishbone will hit it, but I have never had them hit.

Re: Alternative Air Filter Replacement
Go to K&N website and search by dimension. I use one in a similar arrangement to Bill and it does not run rich.

Re: Alternative Air Filter Replacement
I double checked the Snyder's site, and I found a surprise. They do stock the smaller A-9600-F filter as I recalled.
https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/p...9486&cat=41659 But, they also have a larger A-9600-HV filter as well, which is roughly the same size as the one that came on my car. https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/p...9490&cat=41659 And, they stock a high volume adapter kit (A-9600-ADP) that can be used to convert your car from the small filter configuration to the large filter configuration. https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/p...9485&cat=41659 |

Re: Alternative Air Filter Replacement
I use a K & N E-9057 air filter. I have used it on Zenith and Marvel carburetors without any issues. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
