Default Source for speedometer input shaft

Hello guys,

my speedometer is having some motivation issues, it won't read anything.
I've verified that torque tube drive and speedometer cable are working as well as the speedometer itself. (disassembled and tested/repaired it)

The problem is a completely worn input shaft on the speedometer side. It's not square anymore but completely round!

Is that part currently available new somewhere? I know I could write Bert's as they probably have a used spare in stock but if I have to disassemble the speedo again I'd like to use new parts.
Thanks in advance.

Greetings from Germany,

Daniel

Uncle Nick is on this site and he can rebuild the speedo at a price that makes it a no brainer.

The problem is that I have to pay shipping to the states twice + import taxes on the cost of the restoration.

That's the reason I would like to order the parts and do it myself, saves me at least 150 bucks + the cost of restoration.

Ask papanick if he can sell you what you need.

Go on e-bay and look up papanicks speedometers or PM him. It may actually be cheaper and it's guaranteed. Speedometers aren't easy to fix, IMO. Good luck. LRF

I think you had the right premonition-----e-mail Bert's and see what he can do for you.

Your shaft may be like mine round for the 1st 1/2-5/8 " then square past that. The problem is the cable won't reach that far in.

Also there is supposed to be a washer under the raised portion in the upper cable housing which raises the cable up a small amount.

Unfortunately my inputshaft is almost completely worn, not "just" the first half of it. I did use a spacer on the torque-tube side to get the cable further into the speedo, but that only worked for 2 miles. (during which the speedo worked flawlessly :P)

So I take it the input shaft is currently not available as a reproduction, correct?
Then I'll mail Bert's and papanick and see what they can offer me.
